The definition of handcrafted is "To fashion or make by
hand". For me handcrafted means so much more. I view
furniture and cabinet building more as an art , a self
expression of creativity and an expression of the
customer's taste and style. I see the way our society today
has gone the disposable route and I, for one, long for the
times when craftsmen took pride in their work and things
were built the right way. Today it seems that companies
are more concerned with how fast something can be made
and the cheapest way it can be produced. Well I don't
subscribe to this way of thinking. EVERY piece that leaves
my shop is crafted by me and all are made one at a time.
When I make a piece for a customer, I make it to last, and
it will become a family heirloom. Most furniture (if you can
call it that) produced today is no more than cheap
laminates over inferior substrates. I use solid wood and
old world jointery techniques such as mortis and tenon and
dovetail joints, not cheap staples and glue. I started
woodworking as a hobby and quickly got requests from
individuals for pieces that were custom tailored to their
style and needs and the business has grown from there. I
can create a piece form a variation of work that I have
already built or we can work together to make a totaly
unique item.
